Getting the most out of your textile stamp
Posted on 29th September 2023 by Get Set Stamps
Best practices for using your textile stamp.
Our custom textile stamps are a real lifesaver when it comes to labelling up school uniforms - no need for ironing or sewing required - simply stamp and go!
Whilst these COLOP self-inking stamps are super simple to use, we've put together a few tips to ensure you get the best possible results from your stamp.
Prep your clothes.
Before stamping your garments, make sure they're washed and dried first, even (and especially) if they're brand new. New clothing often has residue of manufacturing chemicals - it's important this is washed off first to ensure it doesn't compromise your print.
Positioning.
You'll probably already know that our textile stamps are perfect for fabrics such as cotton, polyester, etc. For light clothing like shirts and blouses, we advise stamping onto the thickest part of the material, like inside the collar, inside the hem, or on the clothing label. For dark coloured clothing, labels are the best place to make your print.
Keep it flat.
When stamping, make sure your garments are spread flat with no creases. For best results place your items on a sturdy solid surface, like a table.
Let it set.
Once you've stamped your items, they're ready to be worn, though we do advise to leave a few hours before washing just to let the ink set in.
Wash with care.
When washing your clothing, the lower the temperature the longer your print will last. We usually suggest washing at 30 degrees as this should give you around 50 washes before the prints starts to fade.
Go again.
Hopefully it will be some time before you print starts to fade, but when it eventually does and becomes hard to read, you can simply stamp again!
Need a refill?
All of our textile stamps are supplied with pads already fitted, so they're ready to use as soon as they arrive, and although the pads last for some time (approximately 10,000 prints or around a year), they do eventually dry out.
However, if your stamp is starting to dry out, don't worry. Instead of buying a whole new stamp, simply buy a pack of refill pads. Our spare pads come in packs of 2 so they'll keep you going for some time. Not only that, they're also more cost-effective than buying a whole new stamp!
